End-of-Life Tire Rubber

Bidet Bijou Noir
Egypt generates hundreds of thousands of end-of-life tires every year. Historically, these tires were stockpiled, burned, or sent to landfill β releasing toxic gases and creating fire hazards. The Noir line intercepts this waste stream before it becomes a problem.
The tires are shredded, de-wired (the steel belts are extracted and recycled separately), and ground into crumb rubber β the dark, irregular granules you see here. This crumb rubber is then processed, compounded, and extruded into the flexible sleeve that becomes your Bidet Bijou Noir cover.
The result is a material that is exceptionally durable (tires are engineered to last under extreme conditions), naturally water-resistant, and carries β₯85% recycled content by weight. The dark, matte aesthetic isn't a design choice β it's an honest reflection of the material's origin.

Why It Matters
Tire rubber is one of the most difficult materials to recycle β it cannot be melted and remoulded like thermoplastics. By using crumb rubber in a flexible extrusion process, Bidet Bijou Noir represents a genuinely novel application of this waste stream.

Post-Consumer Garden Hose PVC

Bidet Bijou Classic
PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is the most widely used plastic in Egypt's plumbing and garden equipment industry. Garden hoses, irrigation pipes, and flexible tubing are produced in enormous quantities β and when they reach end-of-life, most end up in landfill or informal waste streams.
The Classic line sources its PVC from two channels: post-consumer garden hoses collected through Egyptian municipal waste programs, and off-cuts and production waste from Egyptian garden equipment manufacturers. These fragments are shredded, cleaned, and re-compounded into a flexible PVC compound that can be extruded in a full range of colors.
This is why the Classic line offers all 8 curated colorways β the PVC base accepts pigment beautifully, giving you sage green, ocean blue, blush, lilac, sandstone, terrazzo, midnight, and coral. The material is smooth, flexible, and already proven in water-contact applications (it's literally made from hoses).

Why It Matters
Flexible PVC is notoriously difficult to recycle because it requires separation from rigid PVC and careful re-compounding. By sourcing from garden hose waste β which is already a consistent, clean-ish PVC stream β the Classic line achieves high recycled content without complex sorting.

Raw Material
Electric Cable Insulation (E-Waste)

Finished Product
Bidet Bijou Volt
E-waste is the fastest-growing waste stream globally β and Egypt is no exception. When electronic equipment, appliances, and electrical infrastructure are discarded, the copper wire inside is extracted and sold (copper is valuable). But the plastic insulation that surrounds that wire β typically PVC or XLPE β is often burned or dumped, releasing toxic compounds.
The Volt line intercepts this insulation before it's destroyed. Egyptian e-waste processing facilities strip the insulation from discarded cables, sort it by polymer type, and supply it as a clean feedstock. This material is then re-compounded and extruded into the Volt line's sleek, minimal sleeve.
Because cable insulation is already engineered for flexibility, durability, and resistance to heat and moisture, it makes an exceptionally high-performance hose cover. The Volt line achieves β₯90% recycled content β the highest in the Bidet Bijou collection β and its minimal 4-colorway palette (white, silver, graphite, volt yellow) reflects the material's industrial origin.

Why It Matters
Cable insulation is one of the most underutilised recyclable materials in Egypt. The Volt line creates a direct, traceable link between discarded electronics and a finished luxury product β a genuinely circular supply chain.

Recycled Garden Hose PVC + Upcycled Copper Wire (Internal)

Finished Product
Bidet Bijou Copper Edition
The Copper Edition starts with the same base as the Classic line β recycled Egyptian garden hose PVC. But during upcycling, copper wire recovered from Egyptian e-waste processing is woven directly inside the sleeve wall before it is formed into its final shape.
The copper is entirely internal. You donβt see it from the outside β but you feel its effects. The copper wire gives the sleeve structural memory: it conforms to the shape of your shatafa hose and grips it from within, without elastic, without clips, without any external fastener. The sleeve holds itself in place because the copper inside wants to hold its shape around the hose.
This also makes the Copper Edition the most durable line in the collection. Copper wire is extraordinarily resistant to metal fatigue β it bends thousands of times without cracking. At the curve points where a plain PVC sleeve might eventually split, the copper reinforcement keeps the sleeve intact for years.
Copper has been used in Egypt for over 3,000 years β in plumbing, medicine, and jewellery. The Copper Edition brings that lineage into the bathroom: naturally antimicrobial (EPA-registered), with the copperβs properties radiating outward through the sleeve wall to the hose it covers.

Why It Matters
The Copper Edition is the only line where the recycled material is both structural and functional β the copper wire inside is not decorative. It is what makes the sleeve grip the hose, flex without cracking, and deliver antimicrobial properties. This is upcycling in its truest form: the material does more in its second life than it did in its first.

β¦ Our Commitment
Every material in every Bidet Bijou product is sourced from within Egypt. We do not import raw materials. We do not use virgin plastics or rubber. Every cover you buy has a traceable origin story that begins with an Egyptian waste stream.
This is not a marketing claim β it is a supply chain constraint we have deliberately chosen. It makes production harder. It limits our colorway options. It means we cannot simply order more material from a global supplier when demand spikes.
We believe that constraint is the point. A genuinely circular product should be rooted in its local waste economy.
